This site was begun on May 15 2007. Since it is so new these pages are changing each day and nothing you currently see is in anything near final form. We will eventually cover a wide variety of issues music and events. So check back in a while and you will see more variety in our content.
“Cornsong” refers to the Iowa Corn song, considered by many old timers in Iowa as the unofficial State Song. Yes it is a corny song, but—hey—how appropriate. Even more so it is a corny name for this site. But at least you don’t have to explain to folks how to spell it.
Hear here!
Try this—turn your radio on. Tune to a random station—or your favorite station if you have one. Close your eyes and ask yourself:
Based on what I hear where am I?
The answer is almost certainly not “here”. Outside of weather reports and some local sports the content you hear gives you almost no local information. Assuming you are in Iowa City or Johnson County you might not realize, on the basis of what you hear, that you are in one of the most culturally stimulating places in Iowa (and beyond). You certainly would not realize that you are in a very politically progressive community which is the most Democratic county in Iowa.
Our motto for this site is: Hear “here” here.
I hope you enjoy listening.
